The area designated for the deer food
plot was mowed first. Mowing first helps
to reduce the trash size and aids in the
tillage operation. This particular plot
was mainly weeds with some light grass
coverage.

The first pass was done with 3 shanks
and 9" field cultivator sweeps. |
The second pass was done at a 45 degree
angle to cross cut the ground. This
second pass helped to further rupture
the ground and create a nice 4" deep
seedbed. |
 |
 |
The third pass was done with the
optional drag harrow attachment. This
helped to level the soil and break up
any unwanted clods in preparation for
seeding. |
The Till-Ease Model 2148 Cultipacker was
then run over the soil to firm the
seedbed. It was then seeded and run over
again with the cultipacker. The second
pass with the cultipacker helps to
lightly press the seed into the ground
and provide good soil contact. |
